In this second level of five, the student will continue to build on the previously learnt fundamental tools for communicating in English, taking the learner from A1 to A2 level or Basic User level of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference). Whilst introducing the Present Simple tense of the most common verbs, the correct use of determiners, subject pronouns, an introduction to modal verbs and basic syntax, the block covers functions and lexical fields including: exchanging telephone numbers and addresses, talking about dates, describing daily routine and giving instructions using the Imperative. This block aims to extend the student&rsquo,s ability to communicate by using past, present and future tenses on a functional level in situations when dealing with basic needs. The learner can now understand a native speaker when in situations such as travelling and exchanging personal information, providing the speaker grades his or her language. Pronunciation practice continues to take the form of repetition and simulation with all new vocabulary and structures, giving the learner chance to gain confidence and fluency from the outset. One of the important aspects of the methodology used is to enable the student the freedom to practice at their own speed whilst continually building on existing knowledge.

Level A2 - Block 1

In this block the learner will consolidate the material from the previous Block and continue the transition from A1 to A2 from Breakthrough to Waystage. The course content remains functional and focused entirely on improving learner independence in all areas. In this block the learner is introduced to Modal verbs for ability, extended prepositions as well as the Present Simple forms of many common verbs. The use of a variety of exercises encompasses different learner styles as well as guaranteeing thorough coverage of the topics covered. The block is comprised of a series of interactive exercises such as word-picture association, listening comprehension with short, realistic dialogues and student-led listening practice with the vocabulary items.
